Discover Kirchheimbolanden<\/h3>\n

\u201cA small, well-built town of about \u2018300 houses\u2019\u201d \u2013 that\u2019s what Anton Friedrich B\u00fcsching, director of a Berlin high school, called \u201cKirchheim-Poland.\u201d That was in 1790. The \u201cOld Empire\u201d still existed with its more than 300 individual territories, including the Principality of Nassau-Weilburg, whose residence the city had become in the 1730s. The ensuing building boom saw the construction of numerous representative new buildings: the palace, palace church, ballroom, orangery, to name just a few. In addition, the previously medieval \u201cOld Town\u201d was \u201cmodernized\u201d in Baroque style and expanded with \u201csuburbs.\u201d Nevertheless, part of the defensive walls built in the late 14th century remained. <\/p>\n

But then in 1792, it was all over. French revolutionary troops occupied the Palatinate and destroyed what reminded them of the princely era \u2013 including in Kirchheimbolanden. However, the Baroque townscape continued to exist. <\/p>\n

In 1816, the political map changed again. The Palatinate now became Bavarian, and Kirchheimbolanden became a district town. This required new administrative buildings, triggering another building boom. Thus, the 19th century is also very present in the townscape. <\/p>\n

The Kirchheimbolanden City Tour(s) Program offers a general city walk through the Middle Ages, 18th, and 19th centuries, but also very specific focuses on one of the three historical city stages. Additionally, there is a tour focusing on the German Revolution of 1848\/49 (\u201cFreischaren Trail\u201d). All signs are equipped with QR codes. <\/p>\n
