Terrace garden
Terraced garden project
The gardens are not only adjacent to the eastern wing of the palace. A “terrace garden” also connects the grounds from the middle wing of the Residenzschloss up to the Ballhaus [Standort 25]. However, this part of the garden is now only a torso. Restoring its Baroque appearance therefore remains a task for the future of the “Baroque town of Kirchheimbolanden”.

Basis
This is based on extensive archaeological investigations. They confirm surviving floor plans from the 18th century, which “consistently show four staggered garden levels enclosed by high retaining walls. Steps and ramps connect the different levels, on which water basins, paths and flowerbed structures as well as tree plantings are depicted. The central design element is a generous display architecture in the middle terrace wall, in which a “grotto” surrounded by semi-circular ramps creates the connection between the second and third terrace levels.
The structural revitalization that has taken place to date is also very much thanks to an “intercultural dialogue project for stonemasons Kirchheimbolanden – Lviv (Ukraine)”.
The baroque terraced garden is thus taking shape again. A first major step on this path is the restoration of the “Lindenallee” (with 20 Crimean lime trees on the lowest garden level) in 2019-22.
