City hall tower

Upper city gate
The upper gate (Stadthausturm) provided access to the town from the north. The gate tower was 4.50 m wide in the direction of passage and approx. 16 m high up to the eaves.
Around 1750, the tower was given its current dome and converted into the town prison (later the cantonal prison), which is also where the remaining bars on the broken windows come from.
At this time, the former pointed arch on the south side was also replaced by a Baroque round arch.
