Hussar Court
Princely “Hussar Brigade”
As a residential town, Kirchheimbolanden was also a military base in the 18th century with a “Hussar Brigade” and “Grenadier Company”.
While the grenadiers were stationed at the northern edge of the courtyard [Standort 24], the hussars were stationed in the immediate vicinity of the stables [Standort 31].
Together with the “Grenadier Company”, the “Hussar Brigade” belonged to the “Upper Rhine District Contingent”, which comprised the troops of the imperial territories located in the Upper Rhine region [Standort 24].
Princely “comedy house”
In 1779, the “Theaterjournal” reported that an amateur theater was being held at the local Nassau-Weilburg court. It was performed by traveling comedians, was probably only small in size and was located in the area of the Husarenhof.
In 1792, there were therefore plans for a larger new building, but this was not realized, as the court left Kirchheimbolanden in the same year when French revolutionary troops invaded the Palatinate.
