Downtown Shopping

Welcome to Kirchheimbolanden

With the city’s growth since the beginning of the 20th century – from 3,500 inhabitants in 1900 to over 8,000 today – the business sector has also experienced significant expansion. It is primarily concentrated in the pedestrian zone created in the 1990s (Vorstadt, Schlossstraße). Until then, Vorstadtstraße had been the central inner-city traffic artery. Similarly, traffic has been diverted from Schlossstraße since the 1990s. This has significantly improved the city’s quality.

Pedestrian Zone

From the parking deck, the flat, barrier-free pedestrian zone leads through the entire old town and to the centrally located Römerplatz. A 1.20-meter wide strip of grey granite slabs has been laid in the middle of the cobblestones. The narrow alleys of the old town are signposted as play streets, making them ideal for exploring on foot. Römerplatz and its immediate surroundings are also part of the pedestrian zone. The old town boasts many specialty shops, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Weekly Market

Every Friday morning, you can find fresh, regional products from many producers at the weekly market. Here, you can purchase a variety of items for your daily needs, from sausages and cheese to fruits, vegetables, and regional specialties.

Surrounding City Area

The service sector east of the town hall is also a significant part of the changing cityscape. A new city quarter has emerged here since the early 1970s. Shopping centers, banks, doctor’s offices, a hotel, restaurants, the district administration, and the town hall are just some of the central facilities located here. Parking lots and a multi-story car park ensure connectivity, including to the pedestrian zone. Starting from Woogmorgen street, you will find numerous shopping opportunities, pharmacies, drugstores, as well as car dealerships and workshops. In the 1970s, Kirchheimbolanden experienced not only a surge in services but also a commercial-industrial boost. New factory facilities were built in the east, south, and northeast of the city, and existing businesses found additional locations.
