Shopping in the city center

Welcome to the city center of kirchheimbolanden

With the growth of the town since the beginning of the 20th century – from 3,500 inhabitants (1900) to over 8,000 inhabitants today – business life has also expanded considerably. It is mainly concentrated in the pedestrian zone created in the 1990s (Vorstadt, Schlossstraße). Until then, Vorstadtstraße was the central inner-city traffic axis. The flow of traffic has also been taken out of Schlossstrasse since the 1990s. The quality of the city has improved considerably as a result.

Pedestrian zone

The level, barrier-free pedestrian zone leads from the parking deck through the entire old town and to the centrally located Römerplatz. A 1.20 meter wide strip of grey granite slabs was laid in the middle of the cobblestones. The narrow streets of the old town are signposted as play streets and are therefore easy to walk through, while Römerplatz and the immediate surroundings are pedestrian zones. There are many specialist stores in the old town that invite you to take a stroll.

Weekly market

Every Friday morning you can buy fresh, regional produce from many producers at the weekly market. Here you can buy everything you need for your daily enjoyment, from sausage and cheese to fruit and vegetables and regional specialties.

Surrounding urban area

The transformation of the cityscape also includes the service area to the east of the town hall. A new district has emerged here since the early 1970s. Shopping markets, banks, doctors’ surgeries, a hotel, restaurants, the district administration and the town hall are just some of the central functions located here. Parking spaces and a multi-storey parking lot also provide access to the pedestrian zone. Starting from Woogmorgen street, there are numerous shopping facilities, pharmacies and drugstores as well as car dealerships and workshops. In the 1970s, Kirchheimbolanden not only experienced a service boom, but also a commercial and industrial boost. New factories were built in the east, south and north-east of the town, and existing businesses found additional locations.
