Palatine Passion

On Good Friday, at the hour of Jesus’ death, the Donnersberg District Choir will perform excerpts from Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John Passion. What makes this performance unique is that the Passion story, which Bach set to music in the recitatives, will not be sung but read in the Palatine dialect. The translation was created specifically for this performance by pastor and dialect author Michael Landgraf from Neustadt an der Weinstraße, who will also be reading it himself. Alongside the Camerata Risonanza, soprano Cristina Bravo, alto Denise Seyhan, and bassist Florian Sauer will perform under the direction of District Cantor Ulrike Heubeck. The event begins at 3 PM at St. Peter’s Church in Kirchheimbolanden. Admission is free to ensure everyone can attend on this solemn holiday, though generous donations to help cover costs are greatly appreciated.
