In his oratorio from 2003, composer Michael Lippert stages a kind of world theater based on the founding legend of Reichenau Abbey and its first abbot, St. Pirmin. Snake Island is about the nature of singing, God’s creation and the miracle of Pentecost. Legendary past, history and present form a cycle. The music ranges from meditative Gregorian chant, song and chorale to roaring organ toccatas and dramatic choral and orchestral pieces.

The work will be performed as a joint project by the Bezirkskantorei Donnersberg and the Kantorei St. Georgen from Bayreuth. The LUfoniker/Ludwigshafen will accompany the work. Baritone Thomas Herberich takes on the singing and speaking roles. The composer Michael Lippert will play the organ part on the Mozart organ. District cantor Ulrike Heubeck is the overall conductor.
