Dutch house

“Holländergasse”

Like many other 18th century princes, the Nassau-Weilburgs were also interested in extending their residence in the Baroque style.

In 1740, Prince Carl August (reigned 1719-53) therefore announced that he had graciously resolved to have a considerable area above the town built up with houses in order to enlarge our town of Kirchheim. Those interested in building may be locals or foreigners.

This project for an “upper town” (the square of Mozartstrasse, Langstrasse, Neumayerstrasse and Amtsstrasse) was continued under Prince Carl Christian (reigned 1753-88) with the “Holländergasse” (Langstrasse between Gutenbergstrasse and Neumayerstrasse). So-called “Holländerhäuser” (single-storey mansard roof houses) were planned here.

Only the property at Langstraße 71 has survived from this group of houses, but an old postcard also shows the neighboring house at no. 69.
