Ballroom

Princely Entertainment

During the Baroque period, ballrooms mostly existed only in large residences, such as in Versailles or Vienna.

They were venues for Jeu de Paume, which emerged in the mid-15th century as the precursor to tennis, and were also used for dance events in the 18th century.

The Versailles Ballroom gained historical fame through the “Tennis Court Oath” of June 20, 1789, to “not separate and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established and consolidated upon solid foundations.” This marked the acceleration of the French Revolution. Very soon after, the Kirchheimbolanden Ballroom also ceased to be a princely place of entertainment.
